Unless you've kept your Ghostnote item in a glass case as long as you've owned it, it will likely undergo some amount of change over time. Written print may fade, album sleeves may tear, an object may be dropped, or any manner of other physical change may occur during the item's tenure in your care. Does this mean you can no longer resell the item on Ghostnote? Of course not! The item is still the same item, and value is in the eye of the beholder. That said, any changes undergone by the item should be documented so the person who next buys it knows exactly what they're getting. Enter the Update Authentication Scan!
Our software authenticates every item uploaded to Ghostnote, and each scan is another link in its chain of history. As such, it's important to rescan your items periodically, especially when the item has undergone some kind of change. You can find the ability to rescan your items by navigating to your dashboard in the 'settings' area of your app.
In the case of small cosmetic changes, our software will still be able to authenticate an item by its unique, customized features, and the new changes will be added to its ongoing history. In the event that an item has undergone some kind of drastic change, you should contact customer support so we can look at the changes in greater detail.
Keeping Ghostnote items in circulation on the platform is a great boon to their creators, who receive a royalty each time the item is resold. Regular authentication scans allow us to maintain an accurate history of the items our Artists create, and gives the viewing public an idea of the item's ongoing condition. We encourage all buyers to keep their collections up to date with regular authentication scans, even if you may not be interested in selling the item just yet. We all change as time moves on, and if you eventually arrive at a point where you're looking to sell a Ghostnote item, you'll be grateful to have its documented history to offer as additional value for its next owner.
